Jenna Elfman's been taking singing lessons from
composer Cy Coleman. The "Dharma & Greg" star is up for the
title role in a revival of Coleman's 1966 musical "Sweet Charity,"
which is being brought to us by producers Fran and Barry Weissler.
A trained dancer who works out
every day, Elfman can execute the Bob Fosse choreography with ease.
Singing Coleman's jazzy songs,
though, may prove more challenging.
Which is why she spent much of
last week at Coleman's East Side townhouse going over the score with him. How'd she do?
"Very well," says Barry Weissler. "She's a truly gifted
actress and stage performer."
The plan is to take Elfman and
"Sweet Charity" on the road later this year and, depending on reviews, bring it to New
York next spring. |
