Jenna Elfman Stars In New Humane Society Public Service Campaign
Source: U.S. Newswire; June 25, 2001

Jenna Elfman, who plays Dharma on ABC's hit series "Dharma & Greg," is starring in a new public service campaign for The Humane Society of the United States.

The spots, which The HSUS is sending to radio stations across the country, are part of The HSUS' Pets for LifeTM campaign. The campaign is based on research indicating that millions of animals surrendered to animal shelters are the victims of broken relationships between people and their pets. The campaign's goals are to help people strengthen the bond with their pet by addressing behavior problems, creating more pet-friendly housing, minimizing human health concerns such as allergies, and creating realistic expectations for the relationship.

"I love animals so much and their well-being is very important to me," said Elfman, who shares her home with two pugs named Willy and Guinevere. "I am honored to help The Humane Society of the United States spread the word on the importance of caring for one's pets."

"The Humane Society of the United States is thrilled to have Jenna Elfman playing such an important role in our Pets for Life campaign," said Martha Armstrong, vice president of companion animals and equine protection for The HSUS. "Her character Dharma is part of a family that sticks together despite some problems, and that's the point of our Pets for Life campaign. Even though life with an animal is not always perfect, sharing your home and your heart with a pet is an immensely rewarding and enriching experience."

The radio PSA campaign includes four spots that focus on working through problems that may develop in a family's relationship with a pet. Elfman urges listeners to seek help from a veterinarian or local animal shelter. Elfman also narrated a short Pets for Life video, which can be seen at http://www.hsus.org. The audio PSAs will be used on the Internet as well.
